Renew Your Business Names

Renew Your Business Names by June 6th Or Lose It: Registrar General

The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has called on all business owners to act urgently to renew their business names by June 6th, 2024, or lose ownership rights to such names.

The ORC furthered that, the failure of businesses to comply with the directive will compel the registrar to reassign the names to new individuals, and businesses that opt to register new businesses using the same names will be struck out of the register.

A business name is the official name under which a business operates and is known to the public. It’s crucial, as it represents the business’s identity, branding, and reputation. It helps customers identify and differentiate the business from competitors, aiding in marketing, legal recognition, and building trust with stakeholders.

This was contained in a communiqué sent to persons who have registered their business via an SMS alert.

“The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) wishes to remind its clients to RENEW their BUSINESS NAMES by 30/06/2024.” the message said.

The Registrar of Companies (ORC) furthered that businesses that fail to comply with the directive will have their business names removed from the register. Such an action will offer others who want such names an opportunity to re-register them as new businesses.

“Failure to do so will cause the BUSINESS NAME to lapse and be REMOVED from the business register, which will fall into the public domain and be used by anyone else.”
